Who Killed Kurt? By Beniamin Yazdani

EXT. IN A CAR. A HOT SUMMER NOON

A narrow and straight road that passes through the desert. A high model black SUV is the only car that can be seen along the road. A black cross and chain is hanging from the mirror in the middle of the car and it shakes slowly. "The Man Who Sold the World" by Kurt Cobain is playing.

A couple is going south in the car. The man who is driving looks about 40 years old. His clothes and appearance show that he lives a relatively prosperous life, but he is not want to showing this high financial level with his appearance. He is just satisfied with clean and tidy outfits, and he wears large and classic black glasses.

The woman who looks two or three years younger than the man is sitting next to him. She wears more perky makeup and clothes, and from her jewelries, we can guess that she likes to show off her high financial level. While the man has both hands on the steering wheel and is not sitting very straight, the direction of his eyes moves between the road, the sky, the desert and the car's odometer. The woman looks out of the window on her side with confusion. As if the woman is tired of this monotony, she turns to the man,

Did you have to come this way?

The man, who seems to be in his mood and thoughts, notices the woman’s voice,

This is the closest way, the Geodesic Principle!

And he draws a straight line in the air parallel to the direction of the road with his hand. The woman who seems to have added anger to her confusion because of the way of her husband’s answering,

As we are not donkeys, we can decide different, maybe I want to see some nature on the road!

The man presses the alternative route button of the car's GPS and while the screen shows it,

That nature would have made our journey at least 230 miles longer.

The woman who seems to be greedy,

Whatever I say, you have an answer to give, don't you!?

While the man is a little surprised by the woman's behavior, he looks for an answer in his mind and asks,

What time is it today?

The woman seems to be much angry,

Every time! Why do you always relate it to me?

The man is questioning and as if the only answer to this question is important to him,

Aren't you?

Nervously, the woman does not answer more and looks out of the window on her side.

A FEW SECONDS LATER,

Did you know that in the word GUITAR, TAR means string?

(As if she is forced to answer) No.

But what is the meaning of GUI?

I don’t know.

If he hadn't died, he would be 55 years old now.

Who?

The man points to car stereo that playing “The man who sold the world”,

Kurt Cobain.

I like this song of his.

This is not his song.

What?

This was for "David Bowie", then Kurt performed it in "Unplugged".

Who is David Bowie?

The one who played the role of "Tesla" in Christopher Nolan's movie "The Prestige", he also died.

Nolan?

No, Bowie.

Aha. (Thinks) Which one was “The Prestige”?

The one they were magicians.

The one that "Edward Norton" played too?

No, that was “The Illusionist”.

The man makes some noises along with the solo at the end of the song.

Do we have water?

Yes, it's in the back.

While the man’s left hand is on the steering wheel and looking ahead, he reaches his right hand to the back seat and picks up the water bottle, opens the lid and drinks. At the same time along the cheering of the end of the song, he drinks a sip of water and raises the bottle,

Yeessss…

The next song starts. The man seems to have been thinking about this for years,

How does he take us?

Who?

The angel of the death!

What was this thought now?

You know, it can be different, for example, he gave him the shotgun and he splattered his brain on the wall.

What’s shotgun?

The big hunting rifle.

David Bowie?

No, Kurt Cobain.

And who gave him the gun?

The angel of the death.

Well, then he committed suicide.

After all, he was the agent.

It can also be said this way.

If he comes to you, what will you do?

You hope not, ha?

Absolutely, but what are you doing?

Now or 50 years from now?

Now?

I cry so much that he will let me go.

Does he accept?

(Mischievously) I will do anything to make him accept.

You filth!

And what are you doing?

Whatever he says, I do the opposite.

What does it mean?

If he says sleep, I’ll stay awake, if he says eat, I won't eat, if he says walk, I’ll sit, if he says sit, I’ll walk, whatever he says, I’ll do the opposite.

Does it work?

If possible, I will fool him too.

How?

I’ll somehow have him on.

Does it work on him?

Don't forget that humans are smarter than angels.

(mockingly) Oh!

What do you think he looks like?

Well, certainly like an angel.

No, I mean if he wants to be like us, what’s he wears? Or what’s his car?

The woman answers while thinking about a funny problem for a few seconds,

I think he is a man with a thick mustache wearing a white shirt and coming with a big white pickup truck.

Why pickup truck?

He may have to take some of us himself!

Oh! Interesting point.

At this moment, a relatively large white pickup truck, which looks like a roadside assistance, overtakes them and makes them stop on the side of the road with a hand sign and slow down. A man with a big mustache and a white shirt gets out of the truck and by the time he reaches the driver's window, panic has prevailed on the faces of the man and the woman.

The man lowers the window halfway,

Where are you going?

South.

You came on the wrong road, a hundred miles before, you should have taken the left side at the intersection, most of the time everyone is wrong, this road leads to nowhere.

So what are you doing here?

I came from a side road and wanted to go there (pointing to the opposite direction of the car) when I saw you. I came here to tell that you came in the wrong direction.

Thank you.

The man raises the window and swallows while looking in front of him. The truck driver scratches his forehead and goes towards his vehicle as if he didn't get what he intended or something stuck him. While the man and the woman look at him with amazement, he goes around with his truck and when he passes by them, he tells them to go around with a gesture and a smile.

The man looks at his wife. The car starts to move quickly through the dirt on the side of the road and continues the straight path.
