Diana’s Golden Touch: Art, Beauty, and the Divine

a Conversation with Lady Di

Lady Di Artist Interview at ArtCabbage

Diana, as a winner of the ArtCabbage Prize 2024, tell us about your journey in art. How did you start, and what led you to create large-scale gold abstract paintings?

My journey in art began at the age of three when I started attending art school. Since then, I’ve always felt that art is a way to seek and find the divine in the world. I’ve been captivated by the idea of beauty and its manifestations in everyday life. The gold in my work symbolises not just luxury but also the sacredness of the moment, a striving for something eternal and beautiful. I want my paintings to be a portal for viewers, allowing them to feel and see the beauty in their own lives.

How would you describe your artistic philosophy? What inspires you?

I believe that beauty surrounds us everywhere—in nature, in people, in our emotions and interactions. My goal is to reveal this beauty through form, colour, and texture. I strive to create works that invite viewers to pause, to see the world in a new light, and to feel harmony within themselves. Every day is filled with little miracles, and my art is a way to share this vision and inspire a more mindful approach to life.

You’ve worked in various cities around the world. How have these cities influenced your art?

Each place where I’ve worked—London, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Marbella—has contributed to my creativity. London taught me the freedom of expression, Dubai showed me the grandeur and possibilities of the modern world, Abu Dhabi inspired me with its connection to tradition, and Marbella infused my work with warmth and light. Everywhere I go, I find new facets of beauty and integrate them into my work, creating unique pieces that speak a universal language of art.

What do you want people to feel when they look at your paintings?

I want my works to evoke a sense of inspiration, joy, and peace. My paintings are meant to remind people that there is room for beauty and harmony in the world, even in the simplest moments. I aim for viewers to not just see my art but to feel it within themselves, for it to touch their souls and remind them of their own aspirations towards something bright and beautiful.

How do you see your future in art? Are there dreams or projects you wish to realise?

I aim to continue growing and exploring new forms and techniques that will allow me to express my ideas even more deeply. My dream is to create large-scale installations and art projects that involve viewer interaction, turning them from mere spectators into participants in the artistic experience. I also want to keep working with collectors and art managers around the world, ensuring that my paintings find their homes in diverse corners of our planet.

What do you think makes your art unique and appealing to collectors and art dealers?

My works are more than just paintings; they are created with a profound purpose of showcasing the beauty that exists in every moment. Each canvas is an invitation to meditation and enjoyment of the present. I use gold not just as a material but as a symbol of eternity and divine light. This makes my works perfect for those who appreciate not only visual aesthetics but also the deep meaning behind every stroke.

Tell us about your creative process. Are there any particular rituals or techniques that you use?

The process of creating my paintings is a meditative and deeply personal experience. I start with reflection and immersing myself in a state of inner calm. Music plays a significant role, setting the rhythm and mood. I love experimenting with different techniques and materials, including textures and layered approaches, to add depth and complexity to my work. My process is a journey, and I invite the viewer to walk through it with me.

What inspires you when creating commissioned works? How do you work with clients to create something unique for them?

Commissioned works are always a collaboration. I start by understanding the client’s desires, tastes, vision, and the atmosphere they want to create. My inspiration comes from their story, the space where the artwork will be displayed, and, of course, my personal connection to the project. I strive to create not just an artwork, but something truly meaningful and personalised that reflects the unique essence of the client and enhances their environment.
